Tajik President May Join Key CSTO Talks in Kyrgyzstan

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon is expected to take part in the upcoming session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), set for November 26-27 in Bishkek under the chairmanship of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov.

However, the Tajik presidential press service has not yet officially confirmed his participation, The Caspian Post informs via Tajik media.

The summit will bring together the leaders of Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia, and is poised to play a major role in ensuring continuity as the CSTO chairmanship transitions from Kyrgyzstan to Russia in 2026.

More than ten key documents are planned for signing, focusing on strengthening regional defense, deepening security cooperation, and enhancing military-political coordination among member states.

Bishkek will also host a joint meeting of the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers, Council of Defense Ministers, and the Committee of Security Council Secretaries - a central platform for aligning the organization’s security agenda.

The gathering will include the formal appointment of the new CSTO Secretary-General. Kazakhstan’s Imangali Tasmagambetov, currently Deputy Secretary-General, will succeed Kyrgyzstan’s Taalaatbek Masadykov and assume office on January 1, 2026.

The CSTO includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan, and focuses on collective defense against external threats. Armenia suspended its participation in 2024 and has stated its intention to withdraw from the bloc.
