Tajikistan Celebrates 34th Independence Day with Spectacular Military Parade

Tajikistan marked its 34th Independence Day with a grand military parade in Dushanbe, which also celebrated the 30th anniversary of the National Guard.

President Rahmon extended congratulations to all servicemen and women, stressing the importance of protecting national independence and peace, while highlighting the National Guard’s key role in the country’s statehood development, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.

The parade featured more than 5,000 personnel, including members of the Armed Forces, law enforcement, and other security agencies. Armored vehicles and military equipment were showcased, and combat aircraft performed aerial maneuvers above the capital.

Founded in 1995, the National Guard functions as an elite unit responsible for safeguarding national sovereignty, maintaining public order, and protecting strategic facilities.

“Today, the National Guard, which we established as a symbol of our new national statehood and in line with the historical traditions of the Tajik people, has grown into a powerful special-purpose military structure. It remains a critical factor in ensuring the protection of our independence, freedom, territorial integrity, and the security of the state and society,” President Rahmon said.

He called on military and security personnel to continue demonstrating professionalism, vigilance, and devotion to the homeland.

The National Guard, which operates under the direct command of the President as Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, serves as a reserve force for the Head of State. It was initially formed from a rapid-response brigade known as the Presidential Guard.
