Tajikistan, EBRD Join Forces to Boost Water and Heating Infrastructure

The Tajik Finance Ministry and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have signed agreements to advance two major infrastructure projects: the improvement of the water supply system in Yovon District and the modernization of the heating system in Dushanbe.

The Yovon water supply project is financed with a total of 4.8 million euros, which includes a 2.4 million-euro-loan, a 2.4 million-euro-grant, and 450,000 euros allocated for technical assistance, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.

The heating system modernization in Dushanbe will receive $6 million in funding, split evenly between a grant and a loan.

The signing ceremony took place during a meeting between Tajikistan’s Minister of Finance, Faiziddin Qahhorzoda, and Mark Bowman, Vice President of the EBRD.

The discussion emphasized the EBRD’s crucial role in supporting Tajikistan’s sustainable economic development through infrastructure improvements, green energy promotion, and banking sector enhancement. Both sides focused on expanding green finance, implementing renewable energy solutions, upgrading public utilities, and driving digital transformation.

The Ministry of Finance described the meeting as constructive, with both parties committed to strengthening financial cooperation and increasing investment in priority projects through EBRD’s instruments.

Since beginning operations in Tajikistan, the EBRD has invested over 1 billion euros across 185 projects, playing a key role in the country’s development across various sectors.
