Tajikistan’s population has risen 26 per cent over the past decade, reaching 10.7 million, President Emomali Rahmon announced in his annual parliamentary address.
The president highlighted the outcomes of two short-term programs under the 2030 National Development Strategy, aimed at boosting living standards and achieving strategic goals, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
Over the past 10 years, Tajikistan’s GDP grew 3.4 times, with an average annual economic growth of 7.6 per cent, while GDP per capita increased from 6,000 to 16,100 somoni ($653-$1,752). The national poverty rate fell to 19 per cent, and life expectancy rose from 70 to 77 years.
Rahmon emphasized that the country aims to double GDP and reduce poverty to 10 per cent over the next five years. To achieve these targets, government ministries, agencies, and local authorities have been tasked with fully implementing the 2026-2030 Mid-Term Development Program.
