Turkmen People’s Council Chairman Tours Balkan Province to Ensure Success of Upcoming UN Forum

Chairman of Turkmenistan’s People’s Council Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has recently conducted an inspection tour in Balkan Province to oversee final preparations for the upcoming Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs).

The major international event is scheduled for August at the National Tourist Zone “Avaza”, with Turkmenistan committed to hosting it at the highest standards, The Caspian Post reports, citing Turkmen media.

Berdimuhamedov began his visit at Turkmenbashi International Airport, the primary entry point for arriving delegates. He closely examined the quality of service at passenger terminals, passport and customs controls, and stressed the importance of fast, efficient, and hospitable procedures. Special attention was given to airport retail outlets showcasing Turkmen products and souvenirs. Berdimuhamedov also emphasized modernization efforts in migration and customs services, including strengthening technical capabilities and international cooperation.

Demonstrating hands-on involvement, Berdimuhamedov reviewed new ground support equipment and personally tested the runway conditions by driving a sports car.

At the Avaza resort, preparations for the Forum’s cultural and infrastructural aspects were reviewed. This includes the setup of concerts featuring modern LED displays and interactive fountains, aiming to create memorable experience and foster cultural exchange among participating nations. The extensive use of digital platforms to promote the Conference and its events - including a Friendship Concert and a national cuisine festival celebrating Central Asian countries - was also highlighted.

A segment of the inspection took place on the Caspian Sea, where Berdimuhamedov was briefed on maritime security arrangements by State Security Council Secretary and Minister of Defense Begench Gundogdyev, ensuring safe and orderly conduct during the Forum.

The visit concluded with a strategic meeting on organizational matters, where Berdimuhamedov underscored the significance of the July 4 Presidential Decree and the hosting agreement with the UN. He stressed the need for impeccable service, cleanliness, safety, and security in Avaza.

With just 10 days until the Conference, the event will gather representatives from 32 landlocked developing countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America. The Forum will unveil the “Avaza Programme of Action,” designed to accelerate development in critical sectors such as trade facilitation, transport connectivity, technology integration, climate resilience, and structural reforms.

This Programme aims to align national efforts, regional cooperation, and global policies to promote sustainable and inclusive development while preparing for future challenges. Leadership from LLDC governments, alongside support from development partners, the private sector, civil society, academia, and media, will be pivotal to its success.
