Turkmenistan has secured the fifth spot among natural gas suppliers to Türkiye in May 2025 according to recent data released by Türkiye’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK).
Turkmenistan exported a total of 120.03 million cubic meters of natural gas during the month, representing 3.39 per cent of Türkiye’s overall gas imports, The Caspian Post reports, citing Turkmen media.
Türkiye’s total natural gas imports reached 3.54 billion cubic meters in May, reflecting a substantial 22.79 per cent increase compared to the same period last year. The bulk of these imports, approximately 89.32 per cent, were supplied via pipelines from key partners including Azerbaijan, Russia, Iran, and Turkmenistan.
Leading the supplier list were Russia (33.7 per cent), Azerbaijan (29.87 per cent), and Iran (22.37 per cent), followed by Algeria (7.96 per cent) and the US (2.71 per cent). Turkmenistan’s appearance as a new entrant highlights its rising importance in Türkiye’s energy diversification strategy and regional market dynamics.
As Türkiye continues diversifying its energy portfolio, Turkmenistan’s expanding role underscores the growing significance of Central Asian energy resources in meeting Türkiye’s increasing demand for natural gas.
