Uzbekistan is considering the use of Albania’s Durres port as a potential logistics hub to expand access for its exports to Southern Europe and the Mediterranean region.

The proposal was discussed during talks in Tashkent between Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Albanian President Bajram Begaj, attended by official delegations from both countries, The Caspian Post reports via UzDaily.

The two sides focused on strengthening practical cooperation and expanding trade and economic ties. At the beginning of the meeting, President Mirziyoyev described the first bilateral summit as a historic milestone that could elevate relations to a new level.

Discussions covered a wide range of sectors, including agriculture, green energy, geology, information technology, digitalization, and tourism, with both sides emphasizing the need to develop a comprehensive cooperation program.

A key topic was the potential use of the Albanian port of Durres as a strategic logistics center, which could help Uzbek products reach European and Mediterranean markets more efficiently.
