A delegation led by Tanzila Narbayeva, Chair of the Senate of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis, has met with László Köver, Speaker of Hungary’s National Assembly, to discuss deepening bilateral cooperation.
The sides highlighted the strengthening of relations based on friendship and trust, noting Hungary’s recognition as Uzbekistan’s first strategic partner in the EU in 2021, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
The talks focused on economic and investment cooperation, with trade between the two countries steadily growing and joint projects and industrial collaboration expanding. Cultural and humanitarian exchanges were also praised for enhancing bilateral ties.
Parliamentary cooperation was a key topic, including constitutional reforms, strengthening parliamentary oversight, and legislative improvements. Discussions included activating friendship groups, short-term internships for parliamentary staff, digitization of the legislative process, and developing an e-parliament system.
Other areas of collaboration included science, education, water management, agriculture, energy, and joint research, along with information exchange on parliamentary activities.
At the conclusion of the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Uzbekistan’s Senate and Hungary’s National Assembly. The document aims to institutionally strengthen bilateral parliamentary ties, share experience in constitutional and legislative processes, enhance parliament-citizen engagement, and expand friendship groups.
Both sides confirmed that delegation visits will follow principles of equality and mutual interest, with opportunities to support joint projects involving international organizations. The memorandum provides a platform to elevate Uzbekistan-Hungary parliamentary relations to a new level and achieve tangible benefits for the peoples of both countries.
