Uzbekistan, Latvia Deepen Partnership in Audit Sector

Uzbekistan and Latvia are strengthening their interparliamentary ties as Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber Rahim Hakimov met with a Latvian delegation led by Edgars Korčagins, Head of Latvia’s State Audit Office.

The guests were briefed on the growing partnership between the two countries, Uzbekistan’s legislative process, and the progress of recent reforms, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

Korčagins highlighted Latvia’s appreciation for Uzbekistan’s reform agenda under President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and noted the similarities in how both countries’ audit institutions operate under parliamentary oversight. He emphasized that this shared structure creates a strong basis for expanding cooperation.

The two sides pointed to significant progress in practical collaboration between Latvia’s State Audit Office and Uzbekistan’s Accounts Chamber, including a Cooperation Agreement and a three-year Joint Action Program signed in Tashkent in 2024. Discussions also focused on exchanging experience in financial auditing, improving audit legislation, and evaluating the efficiency of financial systems.

Korčagins praised Uzbekistan’s advancements in promoting women’s participation in government, noting that nearly 40 per cent of parliamentary members are women - a figure he described as inspiring.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation, strengthening audit frameworks, and expanding professional exchanges.
