Azerbaijan, Türkiye Strengthen Strategic Partnership at SCO Summit

On September 1, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Tianjin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, where both leaders expressed satisfaction with the continued growth of bilateral relations, rooted in brotherhood and strategic partnership, across energy, transport, and infrastructure sectors.

Discussions highlighted cooperation between SOCAR and Türkiye’s BOTAŞ company, emphasizing the planned delivery of Azerbaijani gas to Syria via Türkiye, supported financially by Qatar, The Caspian Post reports via local media.

The leaders also explored opportunities for joint energy projects in other countries.

The meeting drew attention to the recent groundbreaking ceremony for the Kars-Iğdır-Dilucu railway line, with both sides exchanging views on ongoing railway projects in Azerbaijan, including those in Nakhchivan.

The presidents also discussed the reconciliation process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, appreciating Türkiye’s stabilizing role in regional matters. They highlighted the importance of the upcoming Summit of the Organization of Turkic States, scheduled to take place later this year in Azerbaijan.

The talks concluded with an exchange of views on the future of the Azerbaijan-Türkiye strategic alliance and other issues of mutual interest, reaffirming the strong partnership between the two countries.
