In the first quarter of 2026, authorities in Georgia granted protection status to two foreign nationals.
A citizen of Iran was granted refugee status, while a citizen of Türkiye received humanitarian protection, The Caspian Post reports via Georgian media.
At the same time, 228 asylum applications were rejected, with most applicants coming from Türkiye, India, and Russia. Overall, 201 foreign nationals applied for asylum between January and March 2026, with the largest groups originating from Ukraine, Türkiye, and India.
Asylum procedures in Georgia can take several months. During this period, applicants are housed in a dedicated reception center, where 638 people were staying as of the first quarter.
Those whose applications are denied must leave the country, or they face deportation, officials said.
