Commenting on the ambassador's departure, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze praised the long-standing relationship between Georgia and Germany, noting Berlin's important role in supporting the country's development in the early 1990s.
However, Kobakhidze sharply criticized Fischer's tenure, saying he was "the only ambassador" who failed to strengthen bilateral relations and instead did everything possible to damage them.
"For many years, Georgia and Germany enjoyed friendly relations. Peter Fischer was the only ambassador who not only did nothing to develop these ties but also did everything possible to harm them," the prime minister said.
The Georgian government has repeatedly accused Fischer of interfering in the country's internal affairs and supporting what it described as revolutionary processes, insisting that foreign diplomats should refrain from involvement in domestic politics.
