Tajikistan and Iran have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on sports and youth development.
The agreement was formalized by Zulfiqor Gulahmadzoda, Chairman of the Tajik Committee of Youth Affairs and Sports, and Ahmad Donyamali, Iran’s Minister of Sports and Youth, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.
The MoU aims to boost sports and youth exchanges between the two neighboring countries and implement joint programs supporting professional sports and youth policy development. It includes provisions for experience sharing, collaborative initiatives, and cultural-sporting cooperation.
The signing represents a significant step toward formalizing bilateral cooperation and accelerating the implementation of mutually beneficial initiatives.
Gulakhmadzoda visited Tehran at the invitation of Donyamali, accompanied by a delegation of sports and youth officials. The ceremonial welcome took place on August 24, 2025, at Imam Khomeini International Airport, where both sides expressed gratitude and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening friendly ties.
During the talks, Donyamali highlighted Iran’s keen interest in joint projects, praising Tajikistan’s success in judo, boxing, and hosting international sports events, as well as its potential in youth development. He emphasized that cooperation will build on shared cultural and linguistic ties, providing a strong foundation for long-term partnership.
In response, Gulakhmadzoda invited the Iranian minister to visit Tajikistan in the near future, signaling both countries’ readiness to deepen bilateral relations. The discussions also covered experience exchange between sports federations and youth organizations, cultural and informational cooperation, and programs to encourage youth participation in sports and wellness activities.
