The World Ballroom Dance Championships has concluded in Georgia, with 13-year-old Akku Sapiyeva from Kazakhstan securing a fifth-place finish in the finals.
Akku began dancing at the age of four and describes dance as both a sport and an art form, The Caspian Post informs via Kazakh media.
“Dance is not only a sport but also an art - a way of expressing emotions and inner feelings through the body and facial expression,” she said. Competing at the championships marked a significant milestone in her burgeoning career.
She expressed gratitude to her coaches, Yekaterina Vladimirovna and Karina Rustamovna, for their guidance, and emphasized the vital support of her family. “They help me through challenges and celebrate every victory,” she said.
Akku is the daughter of London 2012 Olympic champion and two-time world boxing champion Serik Sapiyev, highlighting the role of family legacy in nurturing the next generation of athletes and sustaining Kazakhstan’s sporting traditions.
The championships brought together 124 participants from 28 countries, reflecting the event’s global scale.
