Efforts are underway to establish a direct flight route between Bishkek and Bucharest, following high-level discussions between Kyrgyz and Romanian civil aviation authorities.
Director of the Kyrgyz State Civil Aviation Agency, Daniyar Bostonov, met with senior officials from the Romanian Civil Aviation Authority to explore the possibility of launching regular air services connecting the two capitals, The Caspian Post reports per Kyrgyz media.
The talks included preparations for an intergovernmental agreement on air traffic, with both sides expressing interest in deepening aviation cooperation once Kyrgyzstan is removed from the EU's aviation “blacklist.”
In addition, Bostonov held discussions with Romania’s Ministry of Transport officials responsible for civil aviation. The agenda included regulatory frameworks, aviation infrastructure development, and the training of aviation personnel.
During his visit, Bostonov also toured the Romanian Air Traffic Services Administration (ROMATSA), where he observed the country’s air navigation operations. He was introduced to advanced tower simulators and training systems currently used to prepare Kyrgyz air traffic controllers, engineers, and meteorologists.
The proposed Bishkek-Bucharest route is expected to enhance connectivity, foster economic cooperation, and boost tourism between the two countries.
