Kyrgyzstan Breaks Ground on First-Ever Basalt Fiber Plant in Tokmak

Kyrgyzstan has officially begun construction of its first basalt fiber production facility, the Basalt Evotek plant, with a ceremonial capsule-laying event in Tokmak.

The project, part of Kyrgyzstan’s broader industrialization strategy, is designed to dramatically cut back on construction material imports, said Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Adylbek Kasymaliev, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.

With a $42 million investment, the plant aims to yield up to 5,000 metric tons of basalt fiber annually - a material increasingly used for reinforcement in construction, heat and sound insulation, and eco-friendly composite materials.

Since the start of 2025, the government reports that 77 new industrial enterprises have been established, drawing in $334 million in investment and creating over 6,000 jobs. Kasymaliev emphasized that the Chui region is once more becoming a vital industrial hub, with Tokmak poised to serve as a northeastern industrial center.

The plant is being developed in alignment with the Basalt Fiber and Materials State Program 2024-2030, which aims to establish a new industrial sector, increase domestic production, and boost export capabilities.
