Kyrgyz Club Toktogul Secures Georgian Football Star

Kyrgyz football club Toktogul has signed Solomon Kvirkvelia, one of Georgia’s most accomplished players of recent years.

The two-year contract brings the 33-year-old defender to Bishkek, where he will join Toktogul as the club prepares for its first season in Kyrgyzstan’s top division under Ukrainian coach Sergei Puchkov, formerly of Muras United, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.

Kvirkvelia is set to become the most decorated footballer in Kyrgyzstan’s history. During his career in Russia, he won the Russian Premier League with Lokomotiv Moscow, two Russian Cups, the Russian Super Cup, and another Russian Cup with Rubin Kazan. He was also named Georgia’s Footballer of the Year twice (2014, 2017) and represented his country at EURO 2024.

At the height of his career in 2019, Kvirkvelia was valued at 10 million euros, making him one of the most valuable players ever in Kyrgyz football; his current market value is 250,000 euros. His arrival marks a major boost for Toktogul as the club aims to compete strongly in the top league.
